Welcome fellow book nerds!! I hope you all are having an awesome week! Today is my stop for the book tour of The Bro Code by author Elizabeth A. Seibert, organised by Favourite Pages Book Club.
As a certified stand-up bro, Nick Maguire knows that some things in life are sacred: Do not skip ab workouts. Never back down from spicy foods. And always accept the outcome of Rock, Paper, Scissors. For these are the revered doctrines of The Bro Code, rules of conduct that have been passed down through the ages from bro to bro.
Heading into his senior year, Cassidy High’s star soccer player has his priorities straight and intends to spend his time playing sports, hanging out, and living by the code. But when his best bro Carter’s sister Eliza returns from studying overseas, the awkward, academic girl Nick remembers is different.
Carter might be Nick’s bro, but Eliza becomes his whole world—and he has to make a choice between them. Is being with the girl of your dreams worth breaking the most important rule: never date your best friend’s sister? Somehow, Nick never expected that following The Bro Code may have even bigger consequences than breaking it.

“For whatever stupid reason, you starting a water ballon fight stirred up warm fuzzies in my ten-year old heart.”
Remember the feeling of that first crush? This book will leave you with exactly that – feeling of warm fuzzies!
The story revolves around the friendship between Nick, Carter and Austin – bound by the bro code. From dividing homework to playing Fortnite together, all is well in their world as they try to get through the senior year. That is until, Nick realises his attraction towards Carter’s baby sister, Eliza.
“No matter how much I resented my parents for being Muggles, it wouldn’t change the fact that if I ever went to Hogwarts, I’d probably be expelled for exclusively playing Quidditch and not studying. Ever.“
The main characters are strong and lovable and that makes them easy to relate with. While Nick is a charming, fun loving soccer star, Carter is a brooding nerdy topper of the year. Eliza is a fun confident girl who believes in standing up for herself and calling out people on their bullshit.
“A BRO SHALT NOT WAKE UP BEFORE 11:00 A.M. ON A SATURDAY.”
Personally, I loved the writing – it was funny, witty and crisp. I found myself laughing out loud on various occasions. I liked how the chapters are titled after the bro code commandments.
What I didn’t like was the repetitive use of phrases like “bros before hoes” that reek for toxic masculinity. However, I liked that towards the end, the male characters are called out for their toxicity and realises the fault in their ways. This is an important issue and author has dealt it with total sensitivity.
I would like to give a special mention to the dedication at the beginning – it was truly beautiful and heart-warming.
I would like to thank the author and Wattpad books along with Favourite Pages Book Club for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
